Go Lightroom

Recently Scott Kelby wrote that Adobe gave a sneak peek of Lightroom 1.1 at his Boston Lightroom seminar.

Adobe Lightroom Product Manager Tom Hogarty gave the sold-out crowd of nearly 500 the first public look at the cool new features included in the Lightroom version 1.1 upgrade (which is coming soon), which included improved sharpening and noise reduction as well as improved file mobility.

Among main new features shown at seminar were:

• Easier to merge libraries – he actually called them catalogues and you can export images or a subset of images as a catalogue and they should merge seamlessly with existing libraries. He didn’t get into too much detail but looked like it solved a lot of the issues with merging separate databases from different computers.
• Sharpening – Tool now has amount, radius, detail and masking. Only viewable at 1:1 but definitely at least as good as USM.
• Clarity Slider – In addition to Saturation and Vibrance, there will be a slider called “clarity”. This looked really neat. It might have something to do with saturation but he described it as a large radius unsharp mask like thing and it looked like it really worked well on the image he showed us.
• Categorize presets now in every module.
• Editing metadata presets instead of having to redo the whole thing if you made a mistake or wanted to change something.
• Spraypaint can – Looks like they got rid of the keyword stamper but added this tool. This is like the stamper but you can just “spray” or apply it to a number of images very easily. And you can choose to spray a number of things such as keywords, flags, rotations, etc…
